Resident/Fellow Grant to Attend the 2018 AUA Advocacy Summit

The American Urological Association will host its first independent advocacy summit. This new, AUA-led event aims to expand, strengthen and unify the voice of urology on policy matters impacting urology practices and patients by bringing together a broad array of stakeholders, including patient advocates and researchers.

The conference will host speakers ranging from urologists to patients, to government employees and members of Congress. It will feature grassroots lobbying training for those new to the process, and will provide opportunities for participants to meet with lawmakers and their staff and some to attend a meeting with officials at agencies such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services or the National Institutes of Health.

The Mid-Atlantic Section will fund up to $1,500 for up to two residents or fellows to attend the Summit, as it recognizes that engagement of young urologists in urologic advocacy is important to the specialty. To apply for this support, residents and fellows should email their application which includes a 1-page essay outlining their interest in urology/healthcare policy and advocacy and how attending the Advocacy Summit would support their interest and future aspirations. A brief letter from the Program Director confirming that if selected s/he will be able to attend the conference March 12-14, 2018 in DC should also be submitted. The deadline for submissions is January 12, 2018.

  1. Contact information, including Name, Address, Email, Phone, Institution and Year of Program Completion
  2. 1-page Essay outlining interest in urology/healthcare policy and advocacy and how attending the Summit would support your interest and future aspirations
  3. Brief letter from Program Director confirming that you will be able to attend the March 12-14, 2018 Advocacy Summit, if selected.
